Teefefe – Garten Therapeut Classic T-Shirt
While it’s had its moment in film and in celebrity culture, argyle also was quite popular in the pages of Vogue in the early 2000s. Prada argyle sweaters dotted the November 2003 issue’s Talking Fashion section. A few months before, Nicole Kidman posed in the September issue wearing another Prada sweater. Since then, it’s been a mainstay of preppy labels like Ralph Lauren and Pringle of Scotland. And while we’re relatively on the topic of Scotland, the print hails from the northern country, dating back to the 17th century.
Today, it is having a comeback, alongside a slew of other Y2K trends. Gucci has been using the print for several seasons, while It girl label Staud churned out a whole set for Fall 2021. Khaite and Ashley Williams have both had versions, too. Devon Lee Carlson, the co-creator of Wildflower Cases, featured Williams’s Easter egg yellow and pink sweater in her Y2K-style lookbook. The younger generation, which Lee Carson belongs to, has been loving argyle lately. Descriptions of pieces on Depop come with tags like #Y2Kfashion and #2000s, along with descriptions such as, “Gives me major Clueless vibes.”
